FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WVNS) — The January session of the grand jury in Fayette County has returned indictments on 47 suspects. Crimes range from Murder and Arson to Sexual Assault and Kidnapping. Among the indictments, more than 44-percent were directly drug related.
Topping the list were indictments for Derrick Crouse and Matthew Underwood, who are charged with murder and conspiracy in connection with the death of Janet Garrett. She was shot and killed in her Oak Hill home in April 2017.
Justin Young was indicted on charges of conspiracy, kidnapping and and malicious assault. He was on home confinement for those charges when police found meth in his home in November 2017.
Victor Whitt is facing six counts of second degree sexual assault and two counts of first degree sexual abuse among other charges. These stem from a crime that happened involving a pre-teenage girl in the 1990s.
Area Lesher is charged with first degree arson, destruction of property and obstructing an officer.
A complete list of all the indictments can be viewed below. Arraignments will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018. Judge John Hatcher will hold arraignments at 9 a.m. Those going before Judge Paul Blake will be seen at 1 p.m.
