Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Yvelines

Municipality of Yvelines, in the Ile-de-France region, Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche takes place only ten kilometers from Versailles and its world famous royal castle. It is also located not far from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Feucherolles or Noisy-le-Roi.

The one which takes its name from an 11th century chorevebishop, Saint Nonne, was originally made up of four small hamlets. Long focused on agriculture, the municipality of Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche experienced a new boom in the 17th century with the construction of a new castle brought up to date at the beginning of the 18th century by the legitimized son of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan, Louis- Alexandre de Bourbon.

Things to see and do

Erected in the middle of the 13th century, the church of Saint-Nom was originally a simple tithe barn. Enlarged, destroyed and then altered many times over the centuries, it still unveils a 13th century watchtower today. Nowadays listed as Historical Monuments, it reveals inside an altar from the old castle chapel and made by Jacques Hardouin-Mansart de Sagonne in the 18th century.

While strolling in this commune of Île-de-France, you can also admire the exteriors of the Château de la Bretèche (private property not accessible to the public) listed in the Historic Monuments, the town hall or the ruins of the old castle of Montjoie.

Do not miss a visit to the Val-Martin farm with its 16th century house which served as an outbuilding for the former royal abbey of the Dames de Poissy, or to the Saint-Nom farm. Now transformed into a residence, the latter was owned by the Vaux-de-Cernay abbey.

For amateurs, the town also hosts a golf course known for hosting the famous Lancôme Trophy and the Vivendi Trophy.
